  Scope of application

  This method specifies the Nessler reagent spectrophotometry for the determination of ammonia nitrogen in water.

  This method is applicable to surface water, groundwater, domestic sewage and industrial wastewater

  When the volume of water sample is 1ml and the diameter of 10 mm colorimetric tube is used, the detection limit of this method is 0.025mg/l, the lower limit of detection is 0.10mg/l and the upper limit of determination is 25.0mg/l.

  principle

  Ammonia nitrogen in the form of free ammonia or ammonium ion reacts with Nessler's reagent to form a reddish brown complex. The absorbance of the complex is directly proportional to the ammonia nitrogen content.
